“Most companies continue to be run as though their center of gravity still lies upstream. Even for companies whose costs, sources of customer value, and bases of competitive advantage have tilted downstream, the business often continues to be structured, and managers continue to measure and manage, for the upstream. There is inertia, and even resistance, to moving downstream because the downstream playing field has a very different layout and a set of unfamiliar rules.” Niraj, 2013
