Knowing your value

“I was interviewed the then-CEO of the State Street Bank for a $350,000 assignment. He said to me, “I have increased our net new revenues by 22% compounded annually over my watch over the last 5 years. Why would we need you?” In the next three seconds, I was going to make or not make a third of a million dollars.

I replied, “How would you know if it shouldn’t have been 34%?”

He smiled and replied, “You are hired.”
