Just today, China slapped a $75 billion tariff in retaliation to the US. As an affront and response to President Trump’s measures, the Chinese state upped its ante on the US, sparking a fresh and swift reply from Trump who took on the step to get US companies to cut business ties with China. I recently picked up a copy of this book. It details how China is at the turning point of its development where its near double-digit growth is now threatened by challenges that the waking dragon has to overcome or risk being “caught in the middle-income trap and be unable to become a modern country”.
